Hand-dyed polised cotton fabric from Mali. In the early years of Bazin fabric, imported fabric, such as cotton, silk, or wool, from the Netherlands, Germany, or China is cut into a standard size, knotted for dyeing, and dipped into pigment and fixative. The dyed fabric is then soaked in a starch solution and hung to dry. (Source: United Nations)
